Washington D.C. Trip

| Comments

I made a quick trip last week to Washington D.C. and got the honor of being present to witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb go the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery - a very hallowed place and a moving ceremony that sent chills down this veteran’s spine.

Thank you to all of our veterans!

2014 University of Washington Huskies - First Impressions

| Comments

I admit it – I’m a Husky homer and I couldn’t wait to see the Chris Petersen era begin and UW. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still excited and I’m confident that things will start clicking better on both sides of the ball. It was apparent on Saturday at Hawaii that there is some work to do. I’m not sure what happened to Lindquist at half-time but his second half performance was pretty dismal. I thought the Dick Fain tweet ->

was pretty accurate but after giving it some more thought, I can’t lay Saturday’s performance solely on the QB’s shoulders. Both lines looked ineffective and the secondary looked fairly confused most of the game as well. They have three weeks to make some drastic improvements since their Pac-12 conference schedule is already tough – it’ll be brutal if they continue to turn in performances like they did on Saturday with or without Cyler Miles.

Moved to Azure

| Comments

I haven’t written a blog post in over a year. There are a combination of reasons: lack of inspiration, been busy with family and work and I’ve been spending a lot of time cycling. The cycling is helping get my blood pressure down as well as my weight which are both good things.

I setup a free site on Microsoft Azure and thought I would try using it to host this site for now. I’m writing/managing this site with Octopress, keeping the output in my local DropBox which syncs to DropBox online and Azure lets you use a DropBox directory as a deployment endpoint for Azure websites - all of this is pretty slick.

Let’s see if I manage to meet my goal of one post per week.

Mount Rainier

The girls and I hit the road this morning and went to see Mount Rainier from the South side near Paradise. Great day and what an impressive site!

Update 27 October 2013: I moved hosting back to AWS. I’m not going to update this site as much and utilize http://wtf.kylewelsh.com as my ‘dynamic’ site.

Testing out hosting this beast on Microsoft Azure vs. Amazon AWS.
